California Love: The Golden State Doin’ Sauvignon Blanc (and doin’ it well)

Posted on September 2, 2015

“Doin’ it and doin’ it and doin’ it wellllll…..”

That’s right, folks. We’re bidding adieu to our New Zealand pungent pal and crossing over to the bright, sunny, less invasive side with our Sauvignon Blanc from SoCal. Why is that, you ask? Well, for one, it didn’t knock us on our patooties at first sniff like our friend Muddy Waters did last week. No cat *beep* on a gooseberry bush in these parts, sir! In fact, this California blonde was so light, so crisp, so smooth, she was almost too easy to drink. Or, as our friend Neil Roberts at Clavo Cellars says, “She’s a porch pounder,” (and I’m not just referring to Lo & Tee’s high school nicknames…KIDDING.) More with Neil to come.

What does pique our interest from the very start with this green beauty is her giving, caring side. See, this Sauv Blanc belongs to the family of do-gooders that is ONEHOPE Wines, where 50% of each bottle’s profits go towards benefitting a different philanthropic cause. Ok, ONEHOPE. #WineNot?

For every 12 bottles sold, 6 trees are planted. HUZZAH, Planet Earth!

Right away, this Golden Girl hit us with zest lime on the front and melted into delicious grapefruit in the back….not the tart, lip-puckering grapefruit kind, but the juicy, Ruby Red grapefruit, the kind that melts in your mouth and begs for more. And because it’s aged in stainless steel, there’s a touch of minerality and bright acidity with every Tip and Sip. And just like that, the bottle was G-O-N-E gone.

Other than that, guys…there’s not a whole lot more to her. We did discover that if California Chardonnay is the “it” girl of whites, Sauv Blanc would be the wild, carefree rebel. Survey says? Chardonnay = Jennifer Anniston. Sauv Blanc = Angelina Jolie. God bless early 2000’s pop cultural references.

See you guys next week. New Month. New Varietal. Any Wine. Any Time.

We HEART you,

Lo & Tee
